Emily H. Hickey.Moved from Ireland to London to pursue literary career. Member of Alexander Macmillan’s and F. J. Furnivall’s literary circles. Friend of Robert Browning and founded the Browning Society with Furnivall. Studied with Andrew Lang and gained by correspondence a first-class honours certificate from the University of Cambridge. Lecturer for 18 years at London Collegiate School for Girls. Converted to Roman Catholicism on 22 July 1901 and retracted her early volumes of poetry.
