Singer, novelist, short story writer, and poet. Part of a large theatrical family, including her sister Fanny Kemble, an actress, novelist, and poet. Travelled to France, Germany, and Italy for vocal training. Returned to England in 1841 and performed at Covent Garden. Married Edward John Sartoris on 25 July 1842. Author of A Week in a French Country House (published in The Cornhill Magazine in 1867) and Medusa and Other Tales (1868), which was republished with additions as Past Hours (1880).
