Anacreon Moore.Born in Dublin. Educated at Trinity College, Dublin. Enrolled in the Middle Temple in 1799. Married Elizabeth (Bessie) Dyke on 25 March 1811. Author of Epistles, Odes, and Other Poems (1806); after the volume was denounced by Francis Jeffrey in the Edinburgh Review, Moore challenged Jeffrey to a duel (they were taken into custody by the police before the duel could begin). Other publications include the Irish Melodies series (1808-1834), Lalla Rookh (1817), The Fudge Family in Paris (1818), and Rhymes on the Road (1823). Biographical information: ODNB. (AC)
