Illustrator and marine painter. Born in Coatham, Durham. Contributed to Greyfriar. Studied under Davis Cooper (1867-1869). Began working for the Illustrated London News in 1875. Travelled to the United States in 1882. Member of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. Exhibited at the Columbia Exposition in Chicago in 1893.
