Figure descriptions
The lifeboat, Aid of Ramsgate, saves the passengers of the London Fusilier. Fire,
smoke, and water fill the spaces between the
two boats. One sailor throws a bundled baby toward the lifeboat; a second sailor reaches
his arms out to catch the baby. Another
sailor guides a woman toward the lifeboat. He supports her while holding out a lantern.
Some of the passengers sit safely in the
lifeboat. The sailors on both boats all wear primitive personal flotation devices
as they perform the rescue. Full-page illustration
contained within a wide, two-part border. The inner border is dark and of medium weight;
the outer border is wide and lightly shaded
with a pattern of dense dots.
