The Volunteers’ Song.
Up and arm you, one and all
!1
Arm to guard our native shore :2
Sons of freedom, hear the call—3
Arm you, as in days of yore !4
Hearken not to them that say,5
“ Is not France our true ally ?6
Never war will come our way ;7
Lay then, lay the rifle by.”8
Hearken not, but grasp your arms ;9
They are walls and bulwarks strong :10
Let us have no vain alarms,11
Tempting France to do us wrong.12
Up to guard your country !—arm you ;13
Find a rifle ev’ry man :14
If they say, “ We will not harm you,”15
Make it, “ Neither will nor can.”16
