It is the hour when all things rest :1
The sun sits in the bannered West2
And looks along the golden street3
That leads o’er ocean to his feet.4
Sea-birds with summer on their wing5
Down the wide West are journeying,6
And one white star serenely high7
Peeps through the purple of the sky.8

O sky, and sea, and shore, and air,9
How tranquil are ye now, and fair !10
But twice the joy ye are were ye11
If one that’s dead companioned me.12
