The Power of Love.

No damp that mortal reason throws1
Can quench true love’s celestial beam ;2
For ever on the breast it glows,3
And freshens still in memory’s stream.4
Through all the varied scenes we see,5
Through all the joys and toils we share,6
However coloured life may be,7
The tender tint is ever there.8
Do time and space at distance fling9
Love’s weakened hopes, though faintly fed ?10
Still to the dying heart they cling,11
And drop not till the life be dead.12
