Dawn.
The eager light of morning ! A clear blush1
Of arrowy crimson shooting to the flakes2
Of cloudland snow—then ruffling the dim lakes3
From starlit silver to a dimpled flush4
Of rosy water. Now the slumbrous hush5
Yields at the breath of breezes ; morning breaks,6
And carolling of lark and throstle wakes7
A world to labour. When the herb is lush8
On sheltered mead, the level gleams of light9
Persuade the daisies to a wider round10
Of stretching petals. Morn ! the stir, the might,11
The wonder of young being, with sweet sound12
Of questing voices as the golden height13
Of heaven dawns and earth is summer-crowned.14
