Category: Petrarchan sonnet

A Petrarchan sonnet (sometimes called an Italian sonnet) consists of an octave and a sestet, often with a volta between them, and is usually in iambic pentameter. The rhyme scheme varies considerably, but a common example for the octave is ABBAABBA, and for the sestet (which does not typically end with a couplet) CDCDCD or CDECDE.
