Sunset and stars and sea1
All speak of thee ;2
Thy name’s dear music seems3
Heard in all rushing streams,4
And in all songs the sobbing night-wind sings ;5
The mem’ry of thy face6
Seems linked with ev’ry place7
And with all lovely and mysterious things.8
All life is filled, for me,9
With thoughts of thee ;10
All glory of the sky,11
All holy melody,12
All noble deeds that lift the soul from sin.13
Alas ! within thine heart14
No thought of me has part,15
And to thy dreams I ne’er can enter in.16
