The Golden Thread. An incident so narrated in a very early French Fabliau.—(See Sir Walter Scott’s ‘Essay on Romantic Literature.’)

Figure descriptions
A man kneels before a lady and prepares to plunge a dagger into his chest. The lady extends her arm toward the man but looks away from him. She holds onto her clothing with her other hand. There are multiple figures behind the man and the lady. A nun stands behind the knight. Another woman stands before the nun and examines a small cross. A boy walks in the background holding a cube. A knight in armour stands behind the lady. There is also a veiled woman and a man with a hat in the background. A curtain on a rod partially obscures the view of the settlement in the distance. 2/3-page illustration contained within a single-ruled border.
