A Prayer.
Dear, let me dream of love,1
Ah ! though a dream it be !2
I’ll ask no boon above3
A word, a smile, from thee :4
At most, in some still hour, one kindly thought of me.5
Sweet, let me gaze awhile6
Into those radiant eyes !7
I’ll scheme not to beguile8
The heart, that deeper lies9
Beneath them, than yon star in night’s mysterious skies.10
Love, let my spirit bow11
In worship at this shrine !12
I’ll swear, thou shalt not know13
One word from lips of mine,14
An instant’s pain to send through that shy soul of thine.15
