Resurrection.
Though Death met Love upon thy dying smile,1
And stay’d him there for hours, yet the orbs of sight2
So speedily resign’d their azure light,3
That Christian hope fell earthward for a while,4
Appall’d by dissolution. But on high5
A record lives of thine identity ;—6
Thou shalt not lose one charm of lip or eye ;7
The hues and liquid lights shall wait for thee,8
And the fair tissues, wheresoe’er they be !9
Daughter of Heaven ! our stricken hearts repose10
On the dear thought that we once more shall see11
Thy beauty—like Himself our Master rose :12
Then shall that beauty its old rights maintain,13
And thy sweet spirit own those eyes again.14
