Artist and sculptor. Sixth child of Queen Victoria. Studied at the National Art Training
School. President of the Women’s Educational Union (1871) and founder of the Girls’
Public Day School Company. Married John Campbell, Marquess of Lorne, later the 9th
Duke of Argyll, on 21 March 1871. Moved to Canada (1878-1883), when her husband was
Governor General, and supported the foundation of the Royal Canadian Academy in 1880.
Returned to England and worked out of a studio at Kensington Palace. Exhibited at
the Royal Academy, the Society of Painters in Watercolour, and the Grosvenor Gallery.
Made a sculpture of Queen Victoria, now located in Kensington Gardens. Appointed Dame
Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1918 for her charity work during World
