American sculptor, poet, and art critic. Pseudonym: W. W. S. Alternative signature: W. W. Story. Educated at Harvard and Harvard Law School. Abandoned legal profession for artistic career. Travelled to Europe in 1847 and established a studio in Rome in 1856, becoming an important member of the expatriate community and close friends with many prominent writers and artists.
