C. I. M. Bain. Born in Edinburgh. Her Scottish father, Edward Piper, was a friend of Walter Scott, and her husband was Joseph Bain. By 1881 she was living in London. Her son, F. W. Bain, compiled her poems as An Echo of the Spheres Rescued from Oblivion (Methuen and Co., 1919), which includes his prefatory memoir of his mother.
