The Holiday.

He gave his eyes to the skies of blue,1
His ears to the birds and bees ;2
And he gave his heart to the winds that flew3
Away over empty seas ;4
And he saw the depths that he could not sound,5
And he heard the unworldly songs ;6
And his heart, unfettered, fled past the bound7
Of a tired life’s rights and wrongs ;8
And he neither wrought nor played nor slept,9
Nor troubled with good and ill ;10
And his dreams were vague as the scents that swept11
And sweetened the lonely hill.12
And there from morning till eve he lay,13
And never a joy he sought,14
But he came home glad at the close o’ the day,15
Because he had lived for nought.16
