Spring Song.
(From the German.)

I.
The gentle zephyrs wakening blow1

And day and night they rustle low2

                        By sweet bowers softly ranging.3

Refreshing scent ! reviving sound !4

That breathe to hearts still winter-bound5

‘ Hope even ye, for all is changing.’6
                        II.
The earth grows fairer day by day7

As Spring moves on from March to May,8

                        Her wand of magic wielding.9

’Tis waved ! the sombrest valleys bloom,10

And the sad soul smiles through its gloom,11

                        To grief’s divine exorcist yielding.12
