Figure descriptions
A crowd of men walk together. All of the men wear kilts. The man at the front of the
illustration plays the bagpipes. Four of
the men behind him carry a stretcher which holds a man’s corpse. Some of the men carry
swords. Several men lead a horse in the
background. 1/2-page illustration contained within a single-ruled border.
The corpse of a man is placed on a bed and covered with a blanket. The curtains are
pulled back around the bed. A woman stands
beside the bed and holds a baby over the corpse. The baby reaches out towards the
corpse’s face. Behind these figures, a priest
wearing a hooded cloak reads from a book. Beside the bed, flower petals are scattered
on the floor and a piece of fabric is placed
on a stool. Lit torchières are placed on either side of the bed. 1/2-page illustration
