Figure descriptions
Illustration is divided into two sections. The top part of the illustration shows
Proserpine sleeping on the ground. She is
nude, but her body is covered by a cloth and twigs. Behind her, there is a field and
mountains. A silhouetted figure rides a
horse-drawn cart through the field. The bottom part of the illustration shows two
figures standing in a chariot. The male figure has
dark skin and the female figure has light skin. The male figure holds the female figure,
who bends backwards over his arm. Her long
hair blows behind her as the chariot advances. Two horses pull the chariot. The two
sections of the illustration are separated by a
border which features a foliate pattern. 2/3-page illustration contained within a
single-ruled border.
