The Past.

I loved you many years ago1
In life’s sweet, fair spring-tide ;2
So many, many years ago,3
I thought the love had died.4
And yet to-day old memories5
Awoke, and waking, cried.6
They wept for that which might have been,7
That now can never be ;8
E’en heart and soul ache yearningly,9
I am no longer free.10
Alas ! that dreams of our past dream11
To-day should come to me.12
