Poet and Quaker minister. Pseudonym: R. R. Author information from the Chambers’s Journal ledger entry for The Passage of the Red Sea, published on 3 September 1859, which lists the poet as R. B. Rutter Esq., of 3 Garden Terrace, Newcastle, with the payment given as 10s 6d (NLS 341/310). Born in Bristol, and moved with his family Newcastle at age 19 to work in a bank. Emigrated to Australia in 1854, returning in 1856 to live again in Newcastle and work in a bank. Married Anna Maria Clapham in 1863. Became a Quaker minister in 1871, returning about nine years later to Bristol.
