A. Strachan.Changed his surname from “Strachan” to “Strahan” after moving to Edinburgh. Founded the Strahan & Co. publishing firm in 1858. Moved from Edinburgh to London in 1862 and began publishing works by popular authors including Charles Kingsley, George MacDonald, Dinah Mulock Craik, and Alexander Smith. Established such important periodicals as Good Words, the Sunday Magazine, the Argosy, and the Contemporary Review. Forced to resign the company in 1872 after accruing large debts.
