Met Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Edward Burne-Jones, William Morris, and the Pre-Raphaelites during his time at Oxford. Lifelong friends with William Michael Rossetti. Acquainted with Richard Monckton Milne, Simeon Solomon, and Theodore Watts-Dunton. Reputed by his contemporaries to be sexually non-normative, and frequently wrote on decadent sexual themes.
