A Farewell.

I may not kiss away the tears that still1

Hang on the lids which those loved eyes enshrine :2

I may not weep away the tears that fill3

                        These aching eyes of mine.4
Sleep on, sad soul, shelter’d from love and pain !5

Or haply shelter love from pain, with thee,6

In thy sweet dreams. When we two meet again,7

’Tis but in dreams ’twill be.8
