The Ballad of Pandava

Figure descriptions
Five men and one woman gather outside of a tent. The woman sits on the ground across from an old man. The poem text identifies these two figures as the King, or the great Pandava, and his wife, the Queen. There is a tray with two vessels on the ground between them. The other men in the scene stand and watch the two central figures. One man holds a spear, one holds a sword, and one holds a bow. The fourth man stands next to the tent and crosses his arms. All of the men in the scene wear robes and headscarves and have facial hair. The old man near the center of the illustration wears a feather in his scarf. There are two additional tents in the background. 1/2-page illustration contained within a double-ruled border.

Five men, one woman, and one dog gather in front of an ornate castle with a domed roof. The figures gather down a set of steps from the castle, in-between a cluster of large plants and palm trees and a second building with cylindrical columns. An old man, identified in the poem text as the great Pandava, stands off-center in the scene. His wife kneels at his side and reaches up toward him, as though she is pleading with him. A dog stands beside her, at the forefront of the illustration, and looks at the old man. Three of the other four men gather closely around the old man. One of them holds his shoulder and arm, and another man reaches out toward him. The fourth man follows in the distance. All of the men in the scene wear robes and headscarves and have facial hair. The old man near the center of the illustration wears an ornate top and a feather in his scarf. Additional figures stand in the background near the castle. One man kneels behind her and supports her upper body. Another man looks at the old man and gestures toward the fallen woman with both arms. There are boulders behind the figures, and cliffs adjacent to the shore. All of the men in the scene wear robes and headscarves and have facial hair. The man has a beard and wears an ornate top and a headscarf with a feather in it. There are trees and foliage in the distance. 1/2-page illustration contained within a double-ruled border.
