Figure descriptions
A woman leans out of the doorway of a shop. From outside the shop, a girl holds a
baby up to the woman. The woman holds a hot
cross bun and hands it to the baby. Another woman and a man can be seen through the
shop window next to a pile of buns. There are
multiple boys and girls in front of the shop, most of whom are eating or holding buns.
A small dog begs one of the children for
food. The children all have unkempt hair and some do not wear shoes. The oldest boy
holds a wire chimney brush and runs away from
the shop. The shop window advertises “HOT X BUNS”. 2/3-page illustration contained
within a single-ruled border.
A girl walks down a street. She holds a bell in one hand and a basket in the other.
“One a penny two a penny hot X Buns”
appears below the girl in hand-drawn lettering. The letters form a semicircle around
