Figure descriptions
A crowd of boys gathers around a large effigy of Guy Fawkes on Guy Fawkes Day. The
effigy has a large nose, a feathered cap,
and a lantern hanging around its neck. A dog stands at the foot of the effigy. Most
of the boys hold large sticks and open their
mouths. The poem text suggests that they are singing or reciting in unison. A group
of children watch the performance. One boy, who
stands close to the effigy, lifts a mask to his face and turns towards a young boy
who runs away, looking frightened. Buildings and
