Figure descriptions
The hand-drawn poem title, “The Winter it is Past”, is placed on a banner at the right
side of the illustration. A bird flies
at the center along the banner’s bottom edge. The banner is superimposed over dense
foliage and flowers. A second bird flies over
the foliage at the center of the illustration. To the left of the banner, a woman
is shown in profile view. She is contained within
a circular single-ruled border. She looks toward a third flying bird. 1/32-page illustration
that partially contains the byline and
first section of the poem.
A symmetrical foliate pattern emerges from the left and right sides of a lyre. 1/32
page.
